E-Metric Instructional System (EMIS) Workshop

What

This workshop offers continuing education for those seeking to understand how to evaluate the use of their online library services and resources such as virtual reference, databases, and workstation use. The workshop leader will introduce the E-Metric Instructional System, EMIS, http://www.ii.fsu.edu/emis to facilitate the discussion. EMIS consists of training modules that assist library managers and others to select, collect, analyze and use measures of electronic services or resources (e-metrics) in their library. The workshop will cover:

  • A general introduction to e-metrics, the measurement process and EMIS;
  • Specific instruction on selected e-metrics; and
  • Data use and presentation strategies.

Who

The Information Institute (Institute) at Florida State University's School of Information Studies developed EMIS supported by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). For further project details see: http://www.ii.fsu.edu/getproject_detail.cfm?pageID=8&ProjectID=4.The workshop is sponsored by the Institute, in partnership with the State Library of Massachusetts and the Simmons Graduate School of Library & Information Science.

The workshop will be led by Joe Ryan, Senior Research Associate at the Institute. Ryan co-developed EMIS along with: John Carlo Bertot, Denise Davis, Sunshine Lewis, Charles R. McClure and Manimegalai M. Subramaniam. Ryan is co-author with Bertot and McClure of the Statistics and performance measures for public library networked services. (2001). Chicago: ALA. Registration

The workshop fee is $75. In an effort to keep processing costs and thus the workshop fee low, only organizational or personal checks will be accepted. Purchase orders or credit card payments cannot be accepted.
