Midwest Center for IT Visits Institute

Three members of the Midwest Center for Information Technology (MCIT) visited the Information Institute and FSU March 24-26, 2014.  Institute colleagues and collaborators through the NSF ATE program, the  MCIT team met with local information technology (IT) firms, faculty, students, and staff of the Information Institute. The MCIT team also presented an Eppes lecture about the MCIT and its Careerlink services that assists students, faculty, and IT employers insure that local two year and four year IT curriculum supports IT workforce needs.  View their presentation online at: http://webcast.cci.fsu.edu/?loc=EPPS/20140326EPPSLECTURE.flv

MCIT staffers Brad McPeak, Dr. Levi Thiele, and Erick Whigam also demonstrated their Careerlink database and related services which is an IT jobs posting and analysis service.  Careerlink also allows students to  determine which courses and skills are needed for them to obtain the IT jobs they desire.  Check out the Careerlink database and services at http://careerlink.com/. The MCIT staff also met with the Information Institute researchers to discuss a range of possible research and development collaborations broadly related to replicating and refining the Careerlink service for North Florida.

With MCIT's collaboration, the Information Institute expects to begin the process of implementing a Careerlink service in North Florida to leverage a $2.9 million award received by the College of Communication & Information from the Florida Board of Governors for the North Florida Information Technology (FITC) Pathways Alliance. This new multifaceted project will engage the K-20 education system and industry partners in recruiting, retaining, and placing qualified graduates for IT and computing professions
